Bharat: A Torch Bearer at 2047
The 5000 years old value system as evolved and practiced in Bharat is more relevant in present times of global turbulence than ever. We have had an unparalleled tradition of religious freedom and tolerance. It is established from the famous verse of Rig Veda which says “Let noble thoughts come to us from every side”(Rig Veda 1.89.1).
We know that truth cannot be the monopoly of any one sect or creed.
As Rabindranath Tagore prophesized “India is destined to be the teacher of all lands”; our beloved Prime Minister echoes the same sentiment when he gives a clarion call to his fellow citizens to make Bharat a ‘Vishwaguru’.
The great jurist Sh. Nani Palkhiwala observed that present-day India is like that ignorant person who is carrying a sack of gold who does not know what it is carrying but is content to go along with the load on its head.
A load of gold is the fantastic treasure- in arts, literature, culture and some science like Ayurveda medicine- which we have inherited from the days of the splendor that was Bharat; the accumulated treasure of spiritual truths discovered by the Rishis.
The legendary historian Dr. Arnod Toynbee (1889-1975) noted this:
“It is already becoming clear that a chapter which has a Western beginning will have to have an Indian ending if it is no to end in the self-destruction of the human race…At this supremely dangerous moment in human history, the only salvation for the mankind is the Indian way- Emperor Ashoka’s and Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of non-violence and Sri Ramakrishna’s testimony to the harmony of religions. Here we have an attitude and spirit that can make it possible for the human race to grow together into a single family- and, in the Atomic Age, this is the only alternative to destroying ourselves.”
What an amazing foresight the learned historian had. These words also echo when propagates and what has been promulgated by our ancient rishis- Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam- “The World is One Family”.
