The US House of Representatives has advanced a Russia sanctions bill that could give President Donald Trump authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries buying Russian oil and gas. A proposed amendment specifically names India among 10 countries eligible for such duties. However, the amendment does not automatically impose a 100% tariff on India; it would make India eligible for the additional duties if the legislation becomes law and the President exercises the authority. The final provisions remain subject to the House process.
